ALLEY OF THE STARS: OFFICIAL HANDPRINT CEREMONY FEATURING MAREK KAREWICZ AND ARTISTS PERFORMING AT THE MOŻDŻER+ SHOW; MAREK KAREWICZ PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

LOCATION: ALLEY OF THE STARS, POLISH BALTIC PHILHARMONIC COURTYARD IN GDAŃSK, ADMISSION FREE

The courtyard of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic on the Ołowianka island harbors Gdańsk's well kept secret: the Alley of the Stars. Professor Adam Myjak, a celebrated Polish sculpturer, is one of the originators of the idea of the alley, which already boasts a respectable collection of hands. Alongside many extraordinary Polish artists, those who left their mark here include David Lynch, Academy Award winners Faye Dunaway, Anna Paquin and Marcia Gay Harden, as well as Sir Neville Marriner, Michael Nyman and Deep Purple's Ian Gillan. In 2010, just a couple hours ahead of the Możdżer+ show, their handprints will be joined by those of a group of world-class jazz musicians (Marcus Miller, John Scofield, Eddie Daniels, Charles Fox, Naná Vasconcelos, Lars Danielsson) and a celebrated jazz photographer Marek Karewicz. A selection of Marek's best photographs from his album This is Jazz will be on display in the courtyard until 8th September 2010. All 23 of them in large format specially arranged by Radosław Dębniak. The musical setting of the event will comprise 4 trumpets, 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 1 guitar, 1 piano, 1 double bass and drums - all of them operated by Leszek Kułakowski's Big Band of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. Just over a week later (August 29th, 6:30 pm) the Polish prodigy composer Paweł Mykietyn will follow suit - on the night (and right ahead of) the world premiere of his VIVO XXX.
