The World Premiere of the I, CULTURE Orchestra is one of the highlights of the Solidarity of Arts 2011 festival. This novel undertaking by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute is one of the pillars of the Polish EU Presidency Foreign Cultural Programme. I, CULTURE Orchestra features 107 talented young instrumentalists from Poland and the Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. They were selected from more than 600 candidates by an international panel of orchestra experts lead by the I, CULTURE's artistic director Paweł Kotla. During the three week residency in Gdańsk the young musicians will take part in rehearsals and performances under the supervision of the most renowned tutors from Europe's top orchestra ensambles, including London Symphony Orchestra, Opera de Lyon, Philharmonia Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera. The members of the I, CULTURE Orchestra are going to work with the legendary bandmaster of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Sir Neville Marriner, who was also one of the stars of Solidarity of Arts' first edition. This generous art of supporting young talent with the biggest names in world orchestra education was designed to ensure the highest artistic level of the ensemble. I, CULTURE Orchestra is where biggest musical talent of the East meets the experienced orchestra musicians from the West: it is the most developed platform of such cooperation in the history of Europe. Brilliant soloists, such as Peter Jablonski (piano) and Arabella Steinbacher (violin), have confirmed their participation in the I, CULTURE project. The former will star at Orchestra's World Premiere on August 24th at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic.
In autumn 2011 the I, CULTURE Orchestra will visit Europe's most renowned concert halls, including Berliner Philharmonie, Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (Bozar), Royal Festival Hall in London, Teatro Real in Madrid, as well as other respected venues in the cities of Stockholm, Lublin and Kiev. The I, CULTURE Orchestra project is part of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute's Polish EU Presidency Foreign Cultural Programme.
