Clearly, Zohar Fresco belongs to the musical premier league. One is always running a risk of losing her or his mind not only over the artist’s inspired way of playing, but also over his amazing voice.

Zohar Fresco

Zohar Fresco was born in 1969 in Israel to a Jewish family of a Turkish origin. He developed his own, inimitable style of play on a variety of hand/frame drums, most notably on the Tof Miriam (the drum of Miriam). He is one of the founding members of Bustan Abraham, the legendary group of Israeli musicians (both Jewish and Arab), who have been successful in bringing together oriental- and western music elements into their recordings (the success here – apart from the exceptional quality – means a lack of dominance between the elements…). He is also a member of the Ziryab Trio, led by Taiseer Elias, which explores the Arab and Turkish music of the 19th and 20th centuries.  During the past 10 years he’s been the cornerstone of a number of touring and recording crews of the Israeli superstar Achinoam Nini (Noa). Zohar Fresco is also the artistic director of the Jerusalem Peimot Festival that features percussion and performance artists from Israel and abroad. Among excellent musicians who had the pleasure of working with him are Glen Velez, ustad Zaki Hossian (both Bustan Abraham), Ahmet Misirli, Philip Glass, Ross Daly, Arto Tuncboyaciyan and ustad Hariprasad Chaurasia. Similarly to Lars Danielsson, Fresco began to enjoy a wider popularity in Poland after the achievements of Możdżer’s trio in 2005 and 2006. His workshops and solo concerts of his original frame drum-and-vocals compositions continue to deliver very special experiences to audiences worldwide.
