Marek Karewicz
He is Poland’s most famous photographer in jazz. Marek is also a music journalist as well as a radio and TV host. Still, taking pictures has been his first and most important activity over the years and he has over 2 million photo negatives to prove it. His work documents Miles Davis’ last tour as well as the European tour of Ray Charles. The legendary Polish guitarist and songwriter Tadeusz Nalepa holding his son’s hand on the cover of Breakout’s Blues album is also Karewicz’s creation. His album This is Jazz containing 200 extraordinary photographs of jazz artists was published in February 2009. A selection of 23 of them (in large format of course) constituted the stage design of the festival’s official handprint ceremony in the Alley of the Stars.
