He may be young, but Cato already seems to qualify as Marcus Miller’s long-time collaborator.

Louis Cato

He was born in Lisbon and moved with his parents to the United States when he was very little. Between the ages of 2 and 5 he played drums at holy masses in Ohio and Washington D.C.. He started playing bass guitar as an eight year old and percussion instruments in middle school.

Louis has already performed in Europe, South America and Africa. He played with such artists as Brian McKinght, Roy Hargrove, Stevie Wonder, LaToya Luckett (Destiny’s Child), Q-tip, Wynton Marsalis, Wyclef Jean, Sean Jones, Solange Knowles, Jason Palmer, Talib Kweli and Idle Warship, Norah Jones, Donald Harrison, Bobby Brown and many others. All of them stress that Cato is able to play any genre of music (not only jazz) with unique feeling and passion, as well as instinctive authenticity. In recent years he has been working with Bilal as a bass player and with Marcus Miller as a percussionist. He also performs with his own projects, 6Figures and Chapter2.
