What a treat to have Sean Jones play the trumpet alongside Marcus Miller at this year’s Solidarity of Arts!
Sean Jones
2010 was a year of major changes for this renowned American trumpet player and composer. After five years as Lead Trumpeter he left Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and joined Marcus Miller. He has spent most of the past two summers with him travelling Europe as part of the Miles Tribute tour. Earlier in 2011 he released his sixth album No Need For Words. His trumpet can be heard on Nancy Wilson’s Turned to Blue (a 2007 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album). Jones has also won Downbeat Magazine’s Rising Star award in 2006 and 2007, as well as JazzTimes Magazine’s Best New Artist (readers’ poll), also in 2007. Who has not yet heard how Sean Jones’ trumpet sounds, should go to his official website and give the first track (Look and See from the aforementioned No Need For Words) 20 seconds before it enters. We should all start getting excited.
